RTC COHORT 8 RISE BUSINESS PITCH COMPETITION AND GRADUATION
YOU’RE INVITED!
Please join RISE and your loved one on Friday, july 19th, 2024 from 11:15 am to 3:30 pm for their RISE Graduation and Business Pitch Competition!
Your loved one has spent the past six-ish months in a program that focuses on character development, leadership, job readiness, building positive relationships, and developing an entrepreneurial mindset. During this time, they've created business plans from scratch and pitched them to panels of community-volunteer judges, competing for IOU prizes to help with their reentry when the time comes.
How are business plans and pitches relevant to reentry planning? This exercise is all about making the most of opportunities, overcoming challenges, succeeding in different situations, asking for help, and thinking critically about problems. In the end, it all connects!
We are SO excited for you to celebrate this huge accomplishment with your loved one!
Below is VERY important information for you to know:
Your arrival time inside the Reception and Treatment Center lobby on July 19th is at exactly 11:15 AM.
We completely understand and get that naturally, you’re going to be excited and want to arrive early (we would too). However, the Nebraska Department of Corrections gives very strict instructions to NOT ARRIVE EARLY. So pretty please, do not arrive inside the facility lobby until exactly 11:15 AM. If you are early, we ask that you please wait in your car until 11:15 AM.All you need to bring is your photo ID. DO NOT FORGET YOUR ID! If you do not have your ID, you will not be allowed into the facility and we'll be so sad.
When you arrive to the facility (at exactly 11:15 AM 😆 ) you will be greeted by RISE Volunteer Relations Manager, Chantal Wentz. She will help get you checked in, through the security process, and into the event space. Keep an eye out for her.
The NDCS security search process has changed at RTC for people 13 years of age and older! It's becoming reminiscent of an airport search as you are now going to be stepping into a large body-scanning machine.
Once you place your shoes, belts, and locker keys into a bin to be scanned (like your carry-ons at the airport) you will step to the side and wait in a line, quietly, and will be asked to enter a very large box and give the officer your last name. You will stand on two yellow foot prints with your hands by your side and you will be scanned in mere seconds for objects that are not to be coming inside facilities.
When the scan is complete, you will step out of the box and sit in a chair in a hallway until it is your turn to be pat searched, and then you will receive your shoes and will be ready to go.
We understand this is very "out of the norm" for many. We appreciate your understanding!
If you are or could be pregnant and have any questions or concerns with any of this process prior to the event, please reach out to Chantal immediately. Pregnancy and other medical scenarios will require a doctors note indicating you will need an alternative form of search.
Per NDCS, children under the age of 13 will NOT be body scanned. Children under the age of 13 will be pat searched accompanied by an approved visitor once they have completed their body scan.
Body Scanner Look-a-like at RTC

Photos will be taken at this event. It will take about 1 month for the photos to be ready. A link will be sent to you via a text message where you will be able to access and download the photos at your leisure.

We will send a reminder text message to you 2 days prior to the event.
